Climbing

My back was pretty sore from all the pull-ups Mary made me do yesterday, and my butt is sore (from the one-legged squats, I presume). Nonetheless, I had a great time climbing tonight! There are some fun new routes up, and I climbed a few 10b's - before Christmas, I was just getting to the tops of 10a's. Of course, the ratings are very subjective. (In Duluth, I was struggling on 8's.) But it definitely feels good to master a 10b!

Getting excited for belly dancing next Sunday...

Climbing

Scott and I climbed for an hour and a half tonight. I was crabby - the staff has been in the middle of putting up new routes for at least a week now, so there were *very* few routes available. That said, I ended pretty strong on a 10b that I'm looking forward to trying again next time.

Climbing

Scott and I got in about an hour of climbing today. I didn't complete many routes though, which was frustrating.

Climbing

Went climbing with Scott, and had a nice, strong night. I can tackle just about all of the 5.10a routes now, so next time (Sunday, I hope) I'll have to start working on a 10b or two...

Weak mash-up work-out...

I went to the gym intending to do the 400m/sumo/thruster WOD, but was foiled when every single treadmill (AND both rowing machines!) were in use. I guess all the students are using them for stress relief. As it turned out, after two rounds of sumos and thrusters, my legs were turning to jelly, so I'm not sure how I would have done on the sprinting anyways. I'll try again tomorrow.

Warm-up
2 rounds of:
20 squats, 3 dive-bomber push-ups

2 rounds of:
21 Sumo deadlift high-pull (50#)
21 thrusters (50#)

Climbing
I was *beat* on my first run, but recovered enough to have a few good runs after that. Didn't try anything too taxing, and didn't stay long, because my partners had to go study for finals.

1 more round of the lifts above.

Hoping for a stronger workout tomorrow...

Sprint Tabata (& a little climbing)

Warm-up: Bike ride to the gym + 1/4 mile jog

Sprint tabata!

Another 1/4 mile jog.

Then I climbed with Scott and about 6 of his classmates who were also there. Definitely fun when there's a crowd. Unfortunately, there were a lot of other people there too, and it was kind of hard to find space on the wall. I only did about 4 runs - my muscles were quickly burning out, and the routes I wanted to do were taken. I felt much better about my climbing than on Tuesday, so that's good!

I did the sprinting on the funny little track in the UC Davis gym - it's on the second floor and goes around the basketball courts and the top of the climbing wall, and at one point you're running down a straight section directly towards a big bank of girls on elliptical trainers. Lots of tight curves - ugh. But, it was good for me to do it with other people around, because it pushed me to run harder and "look good." But no one else was tabata-ing with me, so I didn't have to get nervous about competing/winning (which is always the *worst* part about track practices for me).

Enough rambling. It was a good workout. We had spaghetti w/flax from Trader Joe's for dinner. Time to get back to work. Hot tub later!

Climbing

Went climbing with Scott tonight, but it wasn't pretty. I was disappointed - I did so well last week, but tonight was dismal. I'm proud of my second run - it's a tough 5.9 that I scrambled to the top of last week, but this week I was much more graceful.

Overall, grrr.

Climbing

Had a successful night of climbing - got up some 5.10a's more easily than I have in the past. And I'm very proud that "Smelly Pits" (a 5.9) is now my warm-up run rather than my nemesis.

Was thinking of running afterwards, but didn't. Next time, I'll have to go running before I climb.

Climbing

There are new routes up on the wall in the gym! I'm a little disappointed, since there were a couple of 5.10a's that I was working on that got taken down to make way for new things. But it's definitely fun to have new stuff to work on. Smelly Pits (5.9) is still there, and I got up without too much trouble, which felt good.

Pull-ups & climbing

We installed a pull-up bar in the office door frame. Our "rule" is that we have to do pull-up every time we pass underneath. I do 5 jumping pull-ups, and Scott does 3 regular ones. We don't actually do pull-ups *every* time we go under... more like 50% of the time for me. That's still a lot of pull-ups.

Going climbing again tonight. :-)

I meant to warm up on a 5.8, but misread the label and started on a 5.10a instead. But I made it to the top without cheating!

Climbing

Scott's bruised ribs finally felt good enough, so he came along. I worked on some 5.10a's but I need better finger strength! Growing a few inches wouldn't hurt either...

Climbing & a little Ultimate

I went climbing on Monday.  It's wonderful to feel that I'm improving each time I go.  I got to the top of a route that had stymied me twice before.  It's a fun one, with a big crack that you have to use.  I tried the first half of some 5.10's, but didn't get all that far.  Definitely impatient to go back tomorrow or Friday.

We had an IM Ultimate game on Tuesday night. Only an hour, but it felt great to run around and make some nice fast deep cuts.

Maybe I'll go to the gym and lift tomorrow... I *know* I need to get back into it.

Arboretum run

I left my office today and went running! Usually Scott has to motivate me to go, but today I went all by myself. The whole loop took 43 minutes - 41 if you subtract the time waiting for the light to change.

A brief rundown of previous exercise:
Sunday, 10/28 - Walked from Kate's house in Spanish Harlem to the Upper West Side, for a great brunch, and then back through the park.

Saturday, 10/27 - Lots of walking around Chelsea, stopping in galleries. Then we walked to Union Square to watch the Red Sox. Stops for coffee, beer and pizza sprinkled in there.

Friday, 10/26 - A walk through the rainy Upper East Side to get pizza and a drink with Kate.

Thursday - nil

Wednesday - Lots of excitement over the CSI: NY project launch, but no exercise outside of walking to the party location.

Tuesday - An hour-long IM frisbee game. Fun, but not enough skill on the field to make it much of a work out.

Monday - nil

Sunday - Climbing! For the first time in months! I only did about 3 runs before my fingers failed me, but it was great. Excited about going back. A bunch of my IM teammates are climbers, so hopefully they'll let me partner with them.

Saturday, 10/20 - leisurely biking around San Fran with my parents and Scott. We crossed over Golden Gate Bridge and back, which was pretty neat.

So, after a few months of hardly any routine exericse, I feel like I'm finally ready to get back into it. (And work is finally letting up, which is 80% of the battle.)
