Lakewalk, snow shoveling

Short walk on the Lakewalk. A pretty stiff wind made it chilly, but it was fun to see all the icicles and the crashing waves. Here's a video I took of it!

Scott and I helped Mom clear the driveway of snow when we got home. Good back workout!

Climbing

Only tried 4 runs, fewer than usual, but had a good time. Always fun to climb at a new place (Vertical Endeavors in Duluth). Did some fun routes, involving new skills. Good day!

Winter Walk

Feeling ready for a rest day, so went for a walk with Mom on a trail near our house. About two miles altogether, and very refreshing. Nice to get out and breathe the fresh air after being cooped up inside for what feels like a long time!

Tabata Something Else (short set)

No pull-up bar in Duluth. booo!
Push-up tabata: 13, 11, 7, 7, 5, 5, 5?, 4 (57 total)
Sit-ups: 9, 9, 9, 9, 8, 8, 8, 8 (68 total)
Squats: 19, 19, 17, 18, 18, 17, 18, 17 (143 total)

Uf da... my legs were feeling more sore than my arms during the day today, but then I went to do this workout and my arms totally wimped out!

Planks & Legs

Another decidedly indoor workout - it's noon, and the temperature is -8... not counting the windchill.

Planks (separated by 30 second rests)
Front: 2 min
Sides: 1 min each
Front 1 min

Leg Blaster: 4 rounds, separated by 30 second rests
20 squats
20 walking lunges
20 lunge jumps
10 squat jumps

Time: 9:23

Uf da, walking down stairs was pretty wobbly afterward! Maybe tomorrow or Wednesday it will be nice enough outside to get out and enjoy the snow!

Abbreviated Arboretum Run

Scott and I ran through the Arboretum today, and took a quick detour to check out our new apartment. The great news is that it's on the ground floor, and the patio faces south, so we can plant a little garden for ourselves! I'm excited.

Anyways, we didn't do the whole loop, which was fine, because I was having a tough time. Not sure if Scott's pace was too quick for me, or if I'm just worn out from finals, but 34 minutes was definitely enough.

Cindy

Today's workout was a conscious decision NOT to let a hectic life get in the way of physical fitness. I have a nasty physiology final tomorrow morning, and lots of studying to do. And I'm communicating with a bunch of nutrition professors, so that I can apply to the nutrition M.S. program this winter. And it looks like we'll be moving to a new apartment sometime over the holidays. I'm happy I took the time to work out!

Cindy
5 pull-ups (jumping)
10 push-ups
15 squats

I completed 13 rounds + 5 pull-ups in 20 minutes. That's way better than the last two times I tried it (12 and 11 rounds). My record is 14 rounds... need to work back up to that.

Climbing

Climbing with Scott!

10c - brown Lean back
10b/c - red Is That a Euphemism in Your Pocket...?
10c - follow the fishes - FAIL - fingers tired out
10a - dark green... FAIL - couldn't balance it. Try this one next time!
10 - black/red Deathly Hallows
10a - dark green - FAIL
8+ - Fail. OK, I get it. I'm worn out. Enough!

Sort of a disappointing night, but at least it started off well. I had two finals today... I guess they made me more tired than I realized.

Walking lunges & swings

CFWU x 2 x 10 (at-home substitutions, jumping pull-ups)

WOD 081204: 5 rounds of
10 walking lunges (10 steps total, 30# dumbbell)
15 swings (30# dumbbell)

Time: 9-ish minutes

Notes: My legs are pretty sore from yesterday's swings and squats, so I didn't go too hard on today's workout. Not easy, but not killer. I wanted to do the lunges with the dumbbell held overhead, but I couldn't do it with a 30-pounder. (I held the weight at shoulder height instead.) Maybe I should have used 2 different weights - a lighter one overhead for the lunges and a slightly heavier one (35#-40#) for the swings.

Swings, push-ups, squats

CFWU x 2 x 10 (no pull-ups or dips)

As many rounds in 20 minutes of:
15 swings (40# dumbbell)
15 push-ups (not 25, as prescribed)
35 squats (hands behind head at first, swinging freely at the end)

Completed 6 rounds + 5 swings.

I was definitely feeling my abs on the swings. The push-ups weren't as bad as I was expecting, but I'm glad I did 15 rather than 25 - it would have bottlenecked the workout. You can always tell if your legs got a good workout if pedaling a bike on flat ground feels challenging afterward. It did today.

We won 13-5! We got t-shirts that say "IM Champion" on them! We went out for beer afterwards.
