Climbing

Amazing how quickly you can get out of shape... I did 5 runs: two 10c's, two 10b's and a 9. I gave Scott a massage last night, so tonight it's his turn - yay!

90 push-ups

4 x 800m

3:26
3:34

3:48

2:00 rests in between.

Uf da! Slow times, but I'm proud of myself for finishing them!

Timed Sets Circuits

Another 20-Minute Fitness Solution workout...

Perform four rounds of the following circuit:
- Pull-ups
- Sit-ups
- Push-ups

Round One - perform each exercise for 60 seconds
Round Two - 45 seconds
Round Three - 30 seconds
Round Four - 15 seconds
Rest 1 minute between each set of exercises in all four rounds.

My counts:
Pull-ups (dead hang/negative): 8/3, 5/5, 5/2, 5
Sit-ups: 22, 15, 11, 8?
Push-ups: 24, 18, 15, 9

Afterwards, I did 22 push-ups, for a total of 88 push-ups today. This is cheating... you're supposed to do your push-ups in addition to whatever workout you do. Oh well.

Spartan Run #2

(From The 20 Minute Fitness Solution)

Run 5 minutes
Repeat twice:
-30/30: Pull-ups (7, 6)
-30/30 Sit-ups (15, 16)
-30/30 Burpees (10, 10)
-30/30 Squats (33, 33)
-30/30 Bear Crawls (substitute Crab Crawls on second circuit)
(30/30 = 30 seconds of work followed by 30 seconds of rest.)
Run 5 minutes

Notes: Fun workout! Scott and I did it together on our sunny patio. The 30 seconds of rest between exercises feel like such a gift - nice to be able to recover.

Big Basin - another long hike!

85 push-ups

We got dropped off at the beach and hiked back to Big Basin HQ, about 10+ miles. Beautiful weather, lots of fauna and flora. Headed home to Davis in the evening - sad to be out of the woods, but happy to be clean!

Castle Rock - climbing

84 push-ups

Spent the whole day climbing at Castle Rock. We set up a top rope right next to a waterfall and did a few runs there - at one point, I was climbing up and could feel the spray from the waterfall on my face. Not bad! Did some bouldering later in the day. So much more challenging than indoors!

Elephant Seals & Bouldering

83 push-ups

We drove to Ano Nuevo State Park in the morning and went on a guided hike (3 miles) with a ranger to see the elephant seals there - definitely cool.

Went to Castle Rock in the afternoon and bouldered a bit, but it took us a while to find a good spot, so not super efficient.

Big Basin - long hike!

Nice long hike (10+ miles?) through Big Basin, past 4 beautiful waterfalls. Scott and I did our push-ups (81) at the scenic overlook by Berry Falls. (I got caught up and did 82 push-ups later in the day.)

Sunday, March 22, 2009

Big Basin - short hike

Got to Big Basin mid-afternoon, set up camp and had time for a quick hike (4 miles?) before it got dark out. Beautiful park, lots of redwoods.

80... and we're off!

Forgot to do push-ups yesterday, so did them this morning. Finals are over, we're leaving for our camping trip SOON!!!

Sprint tabata

... followed by 79 push-ups. It took a long time to do them. I am pooped. Finals week is rough. One more exam to go, Saturday at 6pm. Can't wait for our spring break hiking/climbing/camping trip!

Pickup, push-ups

About an hour and a half of fairly scrappy pickup with Night Train players. It was immediately after my chem final, and it felt so good to run around on a nice, warm evening! I was short of breath but still running hard by the end of the game.

77 push-ups when we got home.

76 push-ups

Fran

Warm-up: 2 x 10 x CFWU (no dips or pull-ups)

Fran: 21-15-9 reps of
60# thrusters
pull-ups (55# assist for the first 31 reps, 70# assist for the last 14)

Time: 16 minutes

75 push-ups (before bed, long after Fran), 8:12

Notes: My legs are tight from yesterday, and my arms will definitely be sore in the next day or two. Good workout. 60# thrusters were about right.

Sunday, March 15, 2009

"Leg Blaster"

70 push-ups, 5:45 (to make up for yesterday)

Leg Blaster: 4 rounds of...
20 squats
20 walking lunges
20 jump lunges
10 squat jumps
30" rest

Time: 9:14
(About the same as last time, December 15, 9:23.)

75 push-ups, 8:31

Jell-O arms, Jell-O legs!

CVC, 1-day tourney

Four round-robin games (we went 3 and 1), followed by finals. Games were to 13 points and capped after 1:10 or so. We lost our third game 9-5 but ended up beating that team 13-3 in finals. It was a chilly, windy day, but it felt great to get out and run around with my teammates. I had some drops, but most of my throws were good, and I didn't feel too out of shape! I played cup in the zone quite a bit and was still sprinting pretty well in the 5th game. Can't wait for Fool's Fest!

Climbing

Okay night. I did one of the purple 10c's but couldn't even start the other one. Did a tough 10b and then maybe one more b and an a. I think that was it... And then 60 push-ups.

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

55 push-ups

followed by a very long day.

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Sprint tabata

CFWU x 1 x 10 (at-home substitutions, 5 pull-ups)

Sprint tabata sandwiched between 5-minute warm-up and cool-down jogs

50 push-ups

Not bad. I could have/should have pushed a little harder on the sprints, since I had some energy left over at the end. Glutes are feeling tight now, but hamstrings are way better. I foam-rolled a bit when I got home.

Monday, March 09, 2009

Walking lunges & swings

CFWU x 2 x 12 (4 pull-ups & dips)

WOD 081204: 5 rounds of
10 walking lunges (10 steps total, 25# dumbbell)
15 swings (25# dumbbell)

Time: 6:30

Notes: I could have gone up to #30 (that's what I used last time), but 25# was still a workout, and I wanted to be a little careful with my hamstring (which, thank goodness, is feeling much better). I held the dumbbell overhead during the lunges - definitely more exciting than holding it at shoulder height.

45 push-ups

Injured hamstrings?

I felt an acute pain in my right hamstring on Thursday, and both of them were very tight all day Friday and Saturday. Scott gave them a lovely massage Saturday night, and they were feeling better this morning, until I went out for a run. I was planning to do a tabata, but 4 minutes into the warm-up jog, the left one started feeling pretty bad. I walked for a moment, then turned around and jogged home. I'm really nervous about hamstring pulls after seeing everything that Scott's gone through with them. I *really* want to be able to play in Fools next month! Eek!

40 push-ups (Part of the push-up challenge)

Pull-up pyramid - I did 15 pull-ups in the first 5 minutes, and did 6 mixed-grip pull-ups during the 6th minute. My chin was barely above the bar for most of them though.

Planks: 2 minute front, 1 minute per side, 1 minute front

Lots of hamstring stretching...

Tossing

Scott and I went and tossed for a bit - the only time I left the apartment all day! Good to get out and enjoy the sunshine. A few pull-ups and some messing around on the jungle gym.

35 push-ups before bed.

Climbing

We were both pretty low energy. Plus, I was getting bored with the limited number of routes set up. I climbed the orange 10c pretty well, and the purple 10b (made more challenging by limiting my footholds) and another fun grey 10b. We bouldered for a bit before heading home.

30 push-ups before bed.

Super burpees

Warm-up: 2 x 12 CFWU (regular sit-ups, supermans rather than full extensions, and 4 pull-ups & 3 dips)

Work-out: 2 minutes on, 1 minute off for 20 minutes (7 rounds) of:
1 DB push-up, 1 row each arm, 1 clean + 1 thruster.
(Last done 11-11-08.)

I used 22.5# dumbbells and got 7 or 8 reps per round (53 total).

Notes: I did slightly better than last time. My right hamstring felt pretty bad - super crampy. Need to remember to stretch it out (or make Scott massage it) tonight!

12 x 200

Jog to track - 5 minutes

12 x 200m, separated by 1 minute rests.
Times:
43, 46, 45, 44, 46, 47, 47, 47, 47, 47, 46, 45

5 minute jog home.

Notes: Not super fast, as usual, but good that I got it done. I meant to do this workout weekly, but I missed 2 weeks in a row! Fools Fest is just a month away... I need to keep up with this stuff!

Climbing

Two 10c's, both purple. Features were off, but I had to use a few features to complete them.
One 10b, also purple, which I made more challenging by using features instead of "all feet."
An attempt at a 10c, orange, that I zipped up last time but couldn't get this time. Too worn out.

Arboretum run w/intervals

27-ish minute run through the Arboretum, with 4 minute-long intervals.
